Ingredients

The Dough
  • cups all-purpose flour
  • tsp active dry yeast (or 1 packet)
  • ½ tbsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp water warm
  • ½ cup milk warm
  • 5⅓ tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 1 egg beaten
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • salt
The Glaze
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 drop red food dye
  • ¼ cup rainbow sprinkles

Equipment

  • 1 large pot

Method

The Dough
  1. Get a small bowl and pour the warm water into it. Make sure water is not too hot by dipping your finger in it. If it is uncomfortable at all, wait for it to cool or it could kill the yeast.
  2. Add ½ tbsp sugar and the yeast to the bowl of water. Stir until both have dissolved. cover with a damp cloth and set aside for 7 minutes.
  3. Add flour, ¼ cup sugar, milk, butter, 1 beaten egg, and salt to a large mixing bowl. Mix until they are combined. Add yeast mixture to the dough, mix again until thoroughly combined.
  4. Grease the bowl and cover with a damp cloth, leave in a warm place for an hour. Dough should double in size.
  5. Put dough on a flat surface and stretch into a donut shape. Use something circular to cut out the hole in the middle. Cover with a damp cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for 45 minutes.
Frying
  1. Fill a pot with at least 3 inches of a deep frying oil, such as canola or vegetable oil. Heat the oil to 340 F.
  2. Lay the donut into the oil very carefully, don't drop it in or oil can splatter out of the pot. Donut should float in the oil.
  3. Fry for about 3 minutes on each side until brown, flipping once carefully.
  4. Remove donut from oil and place on a wire cooling rack.
The Glaze
  1. Mix ¼ cup of warm milk with 1 cup of powdered sugar. Whisk vigorously to get the sugar to dissolve completely. Add 1 tiny drop of red food coloring to get a pink color.
  2. Drizzle the glaze over the donut in thin lines so it doesn't run off the donut before it can harden. Before the glaze hardens, pour rainbow sprinkles on top until you are satisfied. Eat while the donut is fresh!
