Ingredients

The Fries

  • 2 Granny Smith apples
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • ½ cup flour
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • cup brown sugar
  • ¾ tbsp ground cinnamon

Vanilla Cream

  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

The Fries

  • Mix buttermilk, sugar, and salt in a bowl.
  • Peel the apples and slice into french fry shape. As you chop them, put the fries into the buttermilk. This stops the apples from oxidizing.
  • Mix flour and cornstarch in a separate bowl. Shake the excess liquid off the apples and dredge in the flour mixture. Get the apples well coated. Repeat until all apples are coated in flour and cornstarch mixture. Set apples aside.
  • Begin heating up a pot with one inch of oil (vegetable, canola, or peanut). Wait until oil is 350 degrees F to fry apples (177 C).
  • Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a separate bowl.
  • Fry the apples in the oil for about 2 minutes, or until they get very slightly brown. Any longer will make them mushy and fall apart. Take out and drain on a paper towel or wire rack for a minute. Toss in the cinnamon sugar mixture. Repeat until all apples are done.

Vanilla Creme

  • Add heavy whipping creme, sugar, and vanilla extract to a bowl. Whisk until mixture no longer runs off whisk when you take it out, about 4 minutes. Serve on the side with the fries. Enjoy!
